Microsoft lands an official software outlet in Iraq

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 387 days, 2 hours, 9 minutes ago
Tuesday, May 29, 2012 8:27:37 AM GMT
Believe it or not, there hasn't been an official distributor for Microsoft software in Iraq in the near-decade since it's even been an option; if you wanted Windows or Office in the past several years, your choices were limited and seldom legal. Baghdad's Legend Lands is filling those big shoes through a deal with Microsoft that will see it provide both official copies, support, and other help for Iraqis that want to take the honest path. Stores across the country will take care of everything from large-... (more)

Religious Sites Have More Trojans Than Naughty Ones

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 409 days, 4 hours, 10 minutes ago
Monday, May 07, 2012 6:26:48 AM GMT
Symantec reports that religious websites are more likely to infect computers with a virus than sites serving up naughty adult material. Why? Because the latter has likely invested money into securing their sites against hacks and infections. After all, it would be bad for business if a customer looking for adult material contracted a virtual disease before the virtual action even started. (more)

FBI Wants Backdoors to Facebook, Twitter Immediately

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 411 days, 1 hour, 41 minutes ago
Saturday, May 05, 2012 8:55:26 AM GMT
It's no big secret that the FBI wants a backdoor to every American website planted on the Internet. However the government agency now wants the secret entrance unlocked as soon as possible -- like right this minute -- because the drastic shift from using telephones to using the Internet has made it nearly impossible for agents to wiretap Americans suspected of foul play. The bureau calls it a "Going Dark" problem, as its surveillance capabilities may diminish as technology advances if things don't change. (more)

posted by Pedro CubiasPedro Cubias 442 days, 1 hour, 32 minutes ago
Wednesday, April 04, 2012 9:04:47 AM GMT
There's a JPG floating around that is a supposed leaked image of Google's upcoming Nexus tablet. The image shows every angle save for the back, but what's blatantly obvious is that it's not a 7-inch tablet. Based on the icon sizes and spacing, the render looks to be a 10-inch device sporting Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich." (more)

Google's ice cream cart is slowly making its way through the Android neighborhood, dishing out servings of v4.0 sandwiches as fast as it can. As previously reported, Google blames the slow rollout on the sheer number of qualified hardware sets, but there's also the wireless carrier factor which determines if qualified phones even get the update at all.
